Harman Phoenix 200 120 Color Film: A Comprehensive Review and Evaluation from J&A Photography Studio

Color Rendering: The film impresses with its vibrant color rendition, particularly evident in the rich magenta and yellow hues.

Grain Analysis: Harman Phoenix 200 exhibits a notable graininess characterized by relatively large grain size (we think). Nevertheless, by reducing the ISO to 100, the graininess diminishes, but some loss in detail.

Contrast and Sharpness: The film demonstrates commendable contrast and sharpness, likely attributed to its inherent grain structure. However, if you look at some of our portrait samples, in our examination involving a dark-haired model, fine hair details were minimally discernible, even with the implementation of fill lights to mitigate shadow contrast in studio settings.

Characteristics in Various Conditions: Given its distinct color profile, Harman Phoenix 200 120 film is well-suited for fashion/art studio and outdoor portrait photography. However, owing to its 200 ISO rating and inherent graininess, it may not be optimal for low-light shooting scenarios.

Comparison and Conclusion: As the inaugural iteration of this film, Harman Phoenix 200 exhibits promise but requires further refinement in grain control and color accuracy when juxtaposed with offerings from industry stalwarts like Kodak and Fujifilm. Nonetheless, we are enthusiastic about the emergence of a new British film and maintain optimism that subsequent iterations will showcase notable enhancements.

Special Thanks: We extend our gratitude to Harman Photo for their dedication to preserving the art of film photography and for introducing the Harman Phoenix 200 to enrich the creative landscape.
